Bettoni specimen from CAST

A Bodonian serif by Riccardo Olocco in three optical sizes, built for demanding publishing work across books, magazines and newspapers.

About

Designed by Riccardo Olocco and released between 2023 and 2024, Bettoni draws on Giambattista Bodoni's roman types without replicating any single source, instead distilling the vertical axis, high contrast and hairline serifs characteristic of the neoclassical style. Three optical sizes cover the full publishing range: Text widens the letterforms and reduces contrast for use from 6 to 14pt, while Display tightens and refines them for 24pt and above. The family runs to nine weights with oblique companions throughout, and includes small caps, old-style and lining figures, tabular and proportional sets, plus twenty border ornaments traced from original Bodoni and Bettoni fleurons.

Classification

Bettoni follows the canonical features of Bodonian 'modern' type: vertical stress, high thick-thin contrast, hairline serifs and small apertures, placing it firmly in the didone subcategory.
