Brasilica
CAST · Rafael Dietzsch · 2015

A text serif designed at the University of Reading to support bilingual Portuguese and Brazilian indigenous language publishing, with wide proportions and strong serifs suited to varied printing conditions.
About
Developed as a Masters project by Rafael Dietzsch, Brasilica draws on Swift, Skolar and Proforma for its approach to text performance at small sizes. Wide proportions, moderate contrast and sharp, abrupt terminals give it a sturdy, crisp texture distinct from more neutral text faces. The family spans Regular to Black with a single italic, and first appeared publicly in the visual identity for ATypI 2015 in São Paulo.
Classification
A text serif with moderate contrast, strong serifs and wide proportions, drawing on influences including Skolar and Swift. The sharp terminals and abrupt connections place it closer to transitional or contemporary text serif territory than a purely humanist design.
