Brevier
CAST · Riccardo Olocco · 2007

A compact humanist sans by Riccardo Olocco, engineered for legibility at extremely small sizes with deep ink traps and open junctures that read as distinctive design features at larger settings.
About
Designed specifically for small and very small type — packaging, pharmaceutical leaflets, instruction booklets — Brevier functions reliably down to 3 points under adverse printing conditions. Its apparently geometric forms carry Renaissance humanist proportions underneath: generous x-height, open apertures and slightly modulated strokes. Ink traps at internal angles and open junctures compensate for ink spread at small sizes, and these structural choices become striking formal features when the type is set large. Available in static and variable font formats.
Classification
Apparently geometric in construction but with Renaissance humanist characteristics, including modulated strokes, generous x-height and open apertures — placing it firmly in the humanist sans tradition despite its compact, functional purpose.
