Cemer
CAST · Michele Galluzzo · 2020

A geometric monospaced unicase face drawn from the 1960s logo of a Salentine ceramic tile company, with alternate letterforms built on a grid of thick horizontal and thin vertical strokes.
About
Derived from research into the visual identity of Cemer of Calimera, a short-lived southern Italian tile manufacturer, Michele Galluzzo's typeface translates a self-taught graphic designer's logo into a full unicase character set. Each letter exists in two versions, alternates toggling within the strict modular grid that also shaped the original tiles. Though the construction looks purely geometric, it originated in calligraphic experiments with a broad nib held at 90° to the baseline.
Classification
A geometric monospaced unicase display face derived from calligraphic experiments at 90° nib angle, producing a strict grid of thick horizontal and thin vertical strokes that gives it a distinct modular character beyond conventional sans categories.
