Dic Sans specimen from CAST

A square sans serif by Luciano Perondi, conceived in 2004 and developed over a decade, taking Eurostile as a starting point but opening up the apertures for better legibility at small sizes.

About

Conceived in conversation with Lucio Lazzara in 2004 and refined through visual identity projects over the following ten years, this square sans offers ten weights from Thin to ExtraBlack. Unlike Eurostile, the design pulls back from strict geometry in favour of wider apertures, which helps it hold up in captions and footnotes as well as at headline scale. OpenType features include small caps, oldstyle figures, contextual arrows, expressive punctuation sets and multiple stylistic alternates.

Classification

The page explicitly describes it as a square sans serif. It draws on Novarese's Eurostile but is less geometric, with wider apertures, placing it in the square grotesque tradition rather than pure geometric.
