Macchia
CAST · Ruggero Magrì · 2020

A counterless display sans by Ruggero Magrì rooted in Italian 1930s lettering, with blotted forms and a broad-nib calligraphic energy built for loud headlines and book jackets.
About
Emerging from Magrì's experiments in broad-nib calligraphy, Macchia updates the Italian counterless sans tradition of the 1930s with a new lowercase set that the originals never had. Tight fitting and a large x-height make it compact at headline sizes, while tapering apertures and rounded terminals pull the design away from rigid modernist monoliths toward something more playful. Available in a single Black weight, it is unashamedly a face for shouting.
Classification
A counterless display sans rooted in Italian 1930s lettering traditions, with blotted counters and high-contrast dark forms that preclude running text use; squarely a display category face.
