A geometric grotesque commissioned for the 2022 Milano Graphic Festival, drawing on Swiss Style rigour and the Milanese design tradition of Novarese's Forma.

About

Designed by Fabrizio Falcone as the custom face for Milano Graphic Festival, MGF Sans pairs the tight spacing and wide, uniform capitals of Swiss typography with geometric alternates for a, i, l, t and squared curves on f and j. The family was extended by Falcone and type developer Alex Bossi for the successor festival BIG, adding a Heavy weight, slanted italics and a variable font. A set of 16 directional arrow glyphs, referencing Vignelli and Noorda's New York subway signage, adds a quietly functional flourish.

Classification

The designers describe it explicitly as a geometric grotesque, combining a clear geometric structure with grotesque conventions, citing Swiss Style influences and historical Milanese typefaces such as Forma and Helvetica.
