A newspaper serif by Luciano Perondi drawing on Griffo's Renaissance romans, built across a comprehensive system of optical sizes from Small Caption to BigDisplay.

About

Designed for the demands of newspaper printing, Sole Serif bridges daily press and book typography through its big x-height and wide italic on one side and its inclined axis, calligraphic terminations and Renaissance proportions on the other. The family spans eight optical size grades and a Hairline cut, covering well over a hundred styles with weights from Light to Black. In 2018 it was chosen by Guardian Media Group to revamp The Observer, the oldest Sunday paper in the world.

Classification

Rooted in Francesco Griffo's Renaissance romans, Sole Serif combines inclined axis, calligraphic terminations and Renaissance proportions with a high x-height and wide italic optimised for newspaper printing — placing it firmly in the humanist serif tradition.
