Sorella specimen from CAST

A seriffed family in five weights across three optical sizes, drawn from engraved 18th-century calligraphy by Angela Baroni with Fleischmann-like capitals and a 20-degree italic.

About

Designed by Luis Castellón and sourced from Baroni's copper-plate engraving in a 1740 Venetian book of hours, the design predates Fleischmann's own adoption of the forms he is credited with. Soft, slightly compact proportions sit alongside sharp serifs, bulbous terminals and deliberately unconnected strokes in letters such as E, F, e and g, lending the text an open and airy quality. Thirty styles span Caption, Text and Display optical sizes with matching italics, small caps and four numeral styles, and the family is also available as a variable font.

Classification

Drawn from 18th-century engraved calligraphy with Fleischmann-like serif forms, sharp serifs and high thick/thin contrast in the Display size. The open counters, unconnected strokes and bulbous terminals place it firmly in the transitional tradition with a distinctly calligraphic character.
