TXC Pearl specimen from CAST

An uppercase condensed sans by Andy Anzollitto that fuses American wood type traditions with Jugendstil lettering sourced from 19th-century German-Texan newspapers.

About

Designed as the first release in the Texanische type collection, TXC Pearl draws on specimens from German typefounders including Berthold and Schelter & Giesecke, filtered through advertisements in newspapers like Die Freie Presse Für Texas. The design is caps-only with condensed proportions, slightly squarish round forms and gently flared stems that hint at serifs without committing to them. Distinctive details include flat apexes on A and M, elevated central bars on E and F, and small bowls on P and R that break quietly from grotesque convention.

Classification

An uppercase-only condensed sans with Jugendstil ornamental inflections, designed for display use. Its historical reference to American wood type and Art Nouveau lettering places it firmly in the display category despite its grotesque structural underpinning.
