Voland specimen from CAST

A text serif rooted in Baskerville's 1757 Double Pica, originally cut for the Voland publishing house in 2010 and updated with a variable font and expanded character set.

About

Designed by Luciano Perondi for the Italian Voland publishing house, this transitional serif deliberately restrains its thick/thin contrast to match the page colour of Simoncini Garamond, a benchmark of Italian book publishing since the 1960s. Five weights run from Book to ExtraBold with matching italics, small caps in every weight, oldstyle and tabular figures, and a variable font version. The increased x-height and open counters make it comfortable at text sizes in both book and magazine settings.

Classification

Drawn from Baskerville's Double Pica specimen of 1757, Voland is a transitional serif with deliberately reduced thick/thin contrast and an increased x-height for text use.
