sans-serifgrotesqueitalicmono
FK Grotesk specimen from Catalogue (Florian Karsten)

A rigidly mechanical grotesque by Florian Karsten, first released in 2018 and completely redrawn in 2021 across a full weight range with italic, semi-mono and mono companions.

About

Originally drawn in 2014 and tested across live projects before its 2018 release, FK Grotesk was fully redrawn in 2021 to cover thin through black with matching italics. Sharp corners and subtle ink traps give it character at large sizes without undermining its legibility at text sizes. The family extends into semi-mono and mono styles, and the whole range is available as a three-axis variable font, covering Latin Extended-A and Vietnamese.

Classification

A mechanically constructed grotesque with sharp corners and ink traps, sitting firmly in the grotesque sans-serif tradition with a rigid, systematic appearance rather than humanist warmth.
