Medien Union
Character Type · Henning Skibbe, Tobias Herber

A superellipse-based type system designed for Medien Union, one of Germany's largest publishing groups, covering newspapers, books and digital across serif, sans and condensed families.
About
Commissioned for Medien Union, this system spans serif, sans and condensed families intended to work across the group's diverse media brands including newspapers, school book publishers and radio stations. The geometric construction derives from the superellipse in counter forms such as the o, b and p, offset by tilted outer strokes that aid legibility and allow tighter text setting. Designers Henning Skibbe and Tobias Herber have built coverage across Latin, Greek and mathematical scripts to serve demanding editorial and educational environments.
Classification
The family is built on the superellipse as its core geometric principle, applied to counter forms within glyphs, while angled outer strokes allow for tighter setting — a geometric sans with functional newspaper and digital priorities.
