CMM Coda
Comma Type · Anna Cairns · 2024

A typewriter-derived family by Anna Cairns drawn from the IBM Selectric's Dual Basic face, offered in three structurally distinct styles with a feminist conceptual framework connecting typing, coding and writing.
About
Based on Dual Basic, a 1960s IBM Selectric typeface, CMM Coda splits into Mono Sans, Mono Serif and Proportional, each with an italic, offering an unusual breadth within a shared analogue DNA. Stylistic sets including normalised proportions, alternate letterforms and a German gender symbol asterisk substantially alter the character of each style. The conceptual premise links the history of women in typing and software engineering to the visual language of monospaced and proportionally spaced type.
Classification
Derived from Dual Basic, a 1960s IBM Selectric typewriter face, the family includes both monospaced and proportional styles with a warm analogue aesthetic rooted in typewriter typography.
