Antique No 6
Commercial Type · Paul Barnes · 2020

A seven-weight revival by Paul Barnes of an 1870s Figgins slab, drawn for text but with enough character to lead headlines.
About
A slab serif revival by Paul Barnes for Commercial Classics, based on an idiosyncratic face first seen in the 1870s. Originally released by the Figgins foundry, it survived multiple changes of ownership to become one of the last faces cast by Stevens, Shanks & Sons at the end of the twentieth century. First brought back as an alternate Bold for Caslon Ionic, it expanded in 2020 to seven weights with an original italic. Designed for text but distinctive enough to carry headlines, especially where editorial work wants a slightly off-kilter Victorian voice.
Classification
