Atlas
Commercial Type · Kai Bernau and Susana Carvalho

A Dutch Modernist grotesque drawn for Munich Re with a matching monospaced Typewriter companion, suited to reports and identity work.
About
A grotesque sans by Kai Bernau and Susana Carvalho, originally designed as a corporate typeface for Munich Re, one of the world's largest reinsurance firms. The brief deliberately avoided contemporary corporate trends in favour of the clear, optimistic tone of Dutch Modernism. The client produced hundreds of publications, reports and documents a year, and needed a face that held clarity in complex typographic situations across a well-considered range of weights, while saving space on the page. The retail family pairs Atlas Grotesk with Atlas Typewriter, a monospaced companion, and was developed further for Greek and Cyrillic with Irene Vlachou and Ilya Ruderman, plus collaboration with Christian Schwartz.
