Austin
Commercial Type · Paul Barnes

Paul Barnes's loose revival of Richard Austin's modern, drawn for Harper's & Queen and now a default for fashion and editorial work.
About
A modern serif by Paul Barnes drawn for the British style magazine Harper's & Queen. A loose revival of the late 18th century typefaces of Richard Austin for the publisher John Bell, who cut the first British modern and later the iconoclastic Scotch Roman. Narrow without being overtly condensed, with the styling and sheen of New York in the 1970s, it has become a default for fashion mastheads and high-contrast editorial work. Developed with Hrvoje Zivcic and Berton Hasebe.
