Austin News
Commercial Type · Paul Barnes · 2015

Paul Barnes's news cut of Austin, drawn for the 2015 Daily Telegraph redesign, with compact news proportions across headline, text and a condensed.
About
A news serif by Paul Barnes designed for Jon Hill's 2015 redesign of the Daily Telegraph. Adapted from the Austin family, originally drawn for magazines, Austin News has compact ascenders and descenders for tight leading: classic news proportions. Four closely related cuts cover headlines and text in both print and screen use, including a condensed for tighter measures. Loosely based on the 18th century typefaces cut by Richard Austin for John Bell, it holds an elegant Anglo charm with the clean finish appropriate to contemporary news media.
