Caslon French Antique
Commercial Type · Paul Barnes · 2018

A tamer reverse-contrast display face within the Caslon programme, with thick horizontals and heavy slab serifs that work across sizes.
About
A reverse-contrast display face by Paul Barnes that takes the historic Italian, known as French on the Continent, and reins in the more bizarre extremes of the genre. The thick horizontals at the tops and bottoms of bowls and the heavy slab serifs give it more conventional weight distribution, which keeps it useful at a wide range of sizes for posters, packaging, wayfinding and editorial display work rooted in the nineteenth century.
Classification
Commercial Type describe Caslon French Antique as a less bizarre form of the reverse-contrast display face known as Italian, also referred to as French on the Continent, with thick horizontals at the tops and bottoms of bowls and heavy slab serifs.
