Commercial Type · Greg Gazdowicz

A geometric sans by Greg Gazdowicz drawn for La Repubblica, tuned for newsprint with flat vertical terminals and open apertures.
About
A geometric sans by Greg Gazdowicz, drawn to complement Eugenio Serif in Francesco Franchi's overhaul of La Repubblica. Partially inspired by the classic Bodoni and Futura combinations popularised by Massimo Vignelli, the family serves the paper from big drop caps down to captions, sidebars and infographics. Flat vertical terminals create open apertures and clean spacing between letters, giving the design a straightforward, newsy tone. Splits into a Display family for headlines and a Text family for smaller sizes.
