Ionic Modern
Commercial Type · Commercial Type

A serif system that travels from a sturdy Ionic text face to a highly modulated Modern headline, organised along axes of contrast and weight.
About
A serif system from Commercial Type that joins two nineteenth-century strands, Caslon's robust Ionic and the high-contrast Modern that descended from softer eighteenth-century Moderns. Three optical sizes, Text, Deck and Poster, span six weights from Thin to Extrabold with matching italics. Turning the contrast up takes the workhorse Ionic into subtly contrasted Modern for body copy and finally to a highly modulated headline cut, making it useful across long-form editorial, mastheads and posters.
Classification
Commercial Type describe Ionic Modern as a thread between the robust mid-nineteenth-century Ionic introduced by Caslon and the highly contrasted Modern style that evolved from softer eighteenth-century Moderns, arranged along axes of contrast and weight across Text, Deck and Poster sizes.
