CoFo Chimera specimen from Contrast Foundry

A reversed-contrast display family by Maria Doreuli that reframes the genre's intentional ugliness as something calligraphic and elegant.

About

Where historical reversed-contrast typefaces courted deliberate strangeness, CoFo Chimera draws on a broad-nib calligraphic angle of 45° to produce letterforms that feel characterful rather than awkward. The family spans five styles: three high-contrast weights for display use and two lower-contrast companions suited to smaller sizes, each drawn from scratch rather than interpolated. Latin and Cyrillic coverage makes it practical across a range of editorial and identity contexts.

Classification

CoFo Chimera is a reversed-contrast display typeface influenced by calligraphy at a steep 45° angle, with high-contrast statement styles and lower-contrast text companions. Reversed contrast places it firmly in display territory.
