About
Initiated as a personal research project in 2014, Safari draws on a corpus of photographs documenting hand-painted signs, road markings, promotional inscriptions and other public-space lettering. The collection deliberately sets institutional forms against vernacular, privately-made inscriptions to reveal the breadth of production methods, from colour and letterform drawing to materials and fixing techniques. It connects to François Chastanet's writing on the survival of written practices in public space.
