Dapifer
Darden Studio · Josh Darden · 2012

A slab serif designed by Josh Darden that applies unbracketed, rational slab construction to Old Style proportions, resulting in a face of considerable typographic character.
About
Commissioned by Mucca Design and released in 2012, Dapifer sets out to reconcile the canonical humanist serif model with the formal constraints of a slab serif. Six weights from Light to Black each carry matching italics, giving a total of 18 styles including a stencil variant without italics. The stencil subfamily adds an unusual utilitarian register to what is otherwise a refined text family.
Classification
Darden classifies Dapifer as a slab serif in unbracketed Old-Style, combining the rational structure of a slab with the humanist proportions and optical qualities of an Old Style serif.
