Halyard specimen from Darden Studio

A 48-style grotesque by Joshua Darden, Eben Sorkin and Lucas Sharp, offered across three optical sizes tuned for micro, text and display settings.

About

Designed at Darden Studio and released in 2017, the family draws selectively from 19th and early 20th century grotesque sources including Schelter+Giesecke, Miller and Richard, and Morris Fuller Benton to produce something that feels familiar without being derivative. Three subfamilies — Micro, Text and Display — each run from Extralight to Black with matching italics, giving 48 styles in total. The optical calibration makes it genuinely useful from small-print interfaces through to large-scale typesetting.

Classification

Darden Studio classifies Halyard as a Grotesque Sans, drawing on 19th and early 20th century designs from Schelter+Giesecke, Miller and Richard, and Morris Fuller Benton as source material.
