Gimlet X-Ray specimen from David Jonathan Ross

An experimental color variable font that renders the internal Bézier curves, control points and spacing data of Gimlet as visible letterform anatomy.

About

Released as the January 2020 Font of the Month Club offering, this is a COLR/CPAL and SVG color variable font built on DJR's Gimlet. Rather than displaying finished glyphs, it makes the underlying construction of a variable font legible, showing glyph contours, on-curve and off-curve control points, and kerning information. The interactive online demo, built with Chris Lewis, allows independent adjustment of weight, width and the visibility of each structural layer.

Classification

An experimental derivative of Gimlet that visually exposes the internal mechanics of a variable font, including Bézier curves and control points; categorised as display due to its purely demonstrative and decorative intent rather than conventional text use.
