Aether Mono specimen from DDOTT

A geometric monospaced family in two stylistic variants, derived from Linn Boyd Benton's 1883 self-spacing type system, with a cadence-unit structure that keeps stem intervals consistent within and between letters.

About

Designed by Dominik Thieme and released in 2024, the family splits into Aether A Mono, which retains dark, unmodified brackets and joints, and Aether B Mono, which applies optical corrections for improved legibility. Both variants share 1074 glyphs, 28 OpenType features, swash alternates, and an extensive ligature set designed to harmonise spacing within monospaced columns. The parametric logic behind the spacing makes it well suited to scientific, mathematical and technical typesetting.

Classification

A fixed-width typeface built on a cadence-unit system ensuring consistent stem intervals, with geometric letterforms derived from predetermined character width logic inspired by 19th-century self-spacing type systems.
