Baudot specimen from Delve Fonts

A grid-based display typeface originating from a 1968 design by François Robert, revived and expanded for the 21st century with a chromatic layering system.

About

Originally conceived in 1968 as a headline alphabet evoking Las Vegas marquee lettering, Robert's design circulated in the 1970s as dry transfer type under the name 'Chicago'. The digital revival, retitled Baudot and released in 2022, comes in three weights with OpenType features and over 900 glyphs covering 329 languages including Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese. A separate Baudot Pop subfamily, split into Open and Fill versions, allows chromatic layering effects for flashy headline treatments.

Classification

Baudot is a grid-based display typeface with a marquee aesthetic, drawing on the visual language of Las Vegas entertainment signage. Its modular, geometric construction and headline-only orientation place it firmly in the display category.
