Maxular
Delve Fonts · Steven Skaggs · 2020

A rounded slab serif family by Steven Skaggs, notable for its Rx variant developed through clinical trials to aid readers with macular degeneration.
About
Six years in development, the family splits into two branches: the standard Maxular in six weights with italics for everyday use, and Maxular Rx, a pair of upright cuts expressly designed for readers with macular degeneration. The Rx variant incorporates large x-heights, open letter spacing, built-in generous line spacing and conventional letterforms proven in two independent clinical trials to maintain reading speed under the visual distortions the condition causes. Both branches cover over 700 glyphs with support for 305 languages.
Classification
Explicitly described as a rounded slab serif; all stroke terminals, serifs and junctions are rounded, placing it firmly in the rounded slab category rather than a traditional bracketed or geometric slab.
