A two-style uncial family by Steven Skaggs that pairs an uncial-inspired face with a companion roman, both accompanied by italics and a set of over 180 ornaments.
About
Rieven Uncial takes the historical majuscule uncial script as its starting point but introduces lowercase characteristics to make it practically usable in running text. A companion roman, Rieven Roman, shares many glyphs with the uncial but strips away most uncial forms in the lowercase for settings where more conventional letterforms are required. The family received a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from the Type Directors Club in the 2010 TDC2 competition, and supports 335 languages across its five fonts.
Classification
Rieven is rooted in the historical uncial tradition, a majuscule script form, though Skaggs adapted it to include lowercase characteristics and an italic derived from 15th-century humanist cursive. Its display/script heritage places it firmly outside standard serif or sans categories.
