Panell
Displaay Type Foundry · Ilya Bazhanov · 2026

A boxy geometric sans by Ilya Bazhanov spanning four weights and seven widths, with a brutalist nod to concrete housing blocks and Eurostile.
About
A geometric square sans by Ilya Bazhanov first sketched in October 2021 and released in March 2026. The system runs to 28 weights and 56 styles across four weights from Regular to Bold and seven widths from Compressed to Expanded, with a three-axis variable font covering Weight, Width and Slant. The o is asymmetrically rounded, with one diagonal carrying sharper rounding than the other, which sets the family's rhythm. Stylistic sets hide shortened bottom arms on f, t and y, and the italics lean forward with a sporty energy.
Classification
Displaay describes Panell as a boxy collection with irregular rounded corners, drawing on a kind of new brutalism inspired by concrete housing blocks. They place it alongside Eurostile (Microgramma), Compacta and Earth while flagging its own identity through an asymmetrically rounded o and shortened arms on f, t and y hidden in stylistic sets.
