Grotta specimen from Due Studio

An Italian neo-grotesque with tight apertures and geometric sharpness, drawing on Venus-Grotesk and Monotype Grotesque for a contemporary edge.

About

Designed by Alessio Pompadura and Massimiliano Vitti, with a 2024 revision by Amelie Schaeberle, Grotta pairs geometric structure with sharp contrast and closed apertures to create a dynamic tension across its seven weights. The family runs from Light to Heavy with matching italics and four stylistic sets offering alternate forms. It works across both display and text settings, though its expressive character pulls most naturally towards headline use.

Classification

Described by the foundry as a neo-grotesque with strong geometric accent and tight apertures, referencing Venus-Grotesk and Monotype Grotesque as historical touchstones. The combination of geometric rigidity and sharp contrast places it firmly in the neo-grotesque subcategory.
