Lay Grotesk
Due Studio · Massimiliano Vitti · 2021

A five-weight neo-grotesque by Massimiliano Vitti that softens the rigidity of Helvetica and Folio through increased contrast and slightly reduced letter widths.
About
Drawing from Swiss milestones such as Helvetica and Neue Haas Grotesk, Lay Grotesk retains the neutrality of that tradition while introducing a more evident stroke contrast that rounds off the harder edges. At text sizes the reduced width improves density and readability; at display sizes straight-cut terminals assert a geometric, almost digital quality. The family comprises five weights from Regular to Black, with 785 glyphs including stylistic sets, discretionary ligatures and case-sensitive forms across Latin Extended-A.
Classification
A contemporary neo-grotesque in the Swiss tradition, drawing directly from Helvetica, Neue Haas Grotesk and Folio, with a deliberate softening of classical rigidity through increased contrast and slightly reduced letter widths.
