Referencing types such as Breite Grotesk (1890), Zeitungs Grotesk (1874) and secessionist faces like Secession (1900) and Aviso (1903), Based uses an asymmetric skeleton that breaks the typical symmetry of a standard sans-serif's curves. Lighter weights expose petal-like bowls and sharp shoulders, while the heavier weights shift towards warmer, more rounded forms with contrasting cut-off terminals. Across three families and 32 styles, the family covers eight weights with obliques in the Standard cut and eight weights without obliques in the Condensed and Compressed cuts.
