About
Jainī draws its forms from a 1503 Kalpasūtra manuscript, preserving distinctive features such as disconnected śirōrēkhā with triangular wedges, squarish letterforms with large kānā-height, heavy knots and integrated lower mātrās. Two separate fonts split the family: Jaini uses horizontal conjuncts and Jaini Purva uses vertical conjuncts, allowing typographers to choose the appropriate joining style for their context. Both cover Latin and Devanagari and are freely available under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1.
Classification
Rooted in the calligraphic hand of 15th-century Jain Kalpasūtra manuscripts, Jaini is a display script revival with strong historical reference rather than a neutral text face; classified as display due to its manuscript-derived decorative forms and single weight offering.
