Nithya Ranjana
A digital revival of the Ranjana script, one of South Asia's most complex calligraphic writing systems, offered in both Devanagari and Newa Unicode versions.
About
Ranjana originated between the 8th and 11th centuries and has been used to write Sanskrit and Nepal Bhasa, particularly in Buddhist and Hindu contexts and among the Newar people of the Kathmandu valley. Despite a rich legacy in manuscript calligraphy, stone inscriptions, wood engravings and paintings, the script had minimal digital representation owing to its structural complexity and limited Unicode support. Nithya Ranjana addresses this gap through two versions: one mapped to Devanagari Unicode (DU) and one to Newa Unicode (NU), making the script accessible for contemporary digital use.

Nithya Ranjana is based on the historical Ranjana calligraphic script, a complex South Asian writing system used for Sanskrit and Nepal Bhasa. Its origins in manuscript calligraphy and stone inscription place it firmly in display and calligraphic script territory rather than a standard text category.
