Grandstander
ETC Typefaces · 2018

A children's book-inspired display face with softly inflated letterforms, available as a variable font across nine weights with matching italics.
About
Designed with block lettering as its starting point, Grandstander introduces subtle outward bulges into otherwise straight forms, giving each glyph the slightly overinflated quality of balloon lettering. The family spans nine weights from Thin to Black, each with an italic, and is offered as both static styles and a single variable font with weight and slant axes. Released in August 2018 and subsequently updated, it is now freely available via Google Fonts and GitHub under the SIL Open Font License.
Classification
A block-lettered display face with soft, slightly inflated forms inspired by children's books. Classified as display rather than sans-serif owing to its whimsical, illustrative character that prioritises personality over neutrality.
