Extraset · Xavier Erni, Arthur Schwarz · 2020

A 60-style grotesque superfamily drawn from early 20th-century German industrial sources, with high-waisted capitals, a distinctive hooked lowercase r and an outstroked single-storey a giving it clear personality across three widths.
About
Designed by Xavier Erni and Arthur Schwarz between 2020 and 2022, the family spans condensed, standard and extended widths with ten weights each and matching italics, covering everything from tight package-insert text to large-format headlines. OpenType stylistic sets allow angled terminal strokes on key capitals (E, F, L, T, Z) that pull the design closer to its industrial grotesque origins, alongside barred I and J and softer alternate a and r forms for a more neutral setting. A variable font file is available on request with purchase of the complete family.
Classification
Directly inspired by early 20th-century German industrial grotesques, with distinctive features such as high-waisted capitals and a hooked lowercase r placing it firmly in the grotesque tradition with a contemporary inflection.
