F37 Drago specimen from F37 Foundry

A modern display serif revived from Hermann Ihlenburg's 1892 Columbus, drawn with a tilted axis and unusual ball terminals for distinctive headlines.

About

A modern serif by Rick Banks and team that revives Columbus, an 1892 titling face by German punch cutter Hermann Ihlenburg, after F37 spotted it in 1970s Jaguar press ads. F37 stripped out the old ornate flourishes and erratic terminals, kept the wonky g and other oddities, and added a tilted variable axis with separate Tilted weights. Sixteen styles run across four weights from Light to Bold with matching Tilted and italic cuts. Best for fashion, editorial and identity work that wants a serif with personality rather than the standard editorial polish.

Classification

F37 describes Drago as a modern serif with an ancient history, inspired by Columbus, a Hermann Ihlenburg titling face originally designed in 1892 and spotted by F37 in 1970s Jaguar press ads. The release introduces a tilted variable axis and standalone Tilted weights, with nods to 1960s display faces like Trooper Roman and Bernase Roman.
