Baton Nouveau specimen from Fatype

Originally commissioned for GQ France, this grotesque draws on French vernacular typography and Art Nouveau to produce letter shapes that are eccentric without being decorative.

About

Baton Nouveau is a 28-style grotesque family spanning seven weights in two widths, Regular and Condensed, each with matching italics. The design was born from a magazine commission but carries a broader range, with character set coverage extending to Cyrillic and Greek and a full suite of OpenType features including stylistic sets, tabular and lowercase figures, and fractions. A variable font is included with the complete family, covering weight, width and slant axes.

Classification

Baton Nouveau is a grotesque sans with practical, straightforward letterforms; its Art Nouveau and French vernacular influences introduce eccentric details within an otherwise clean grotesque structure.
