Canapé specimen from FDI Type Foundry

A subtly modulated serif by Sebastian Nagel, designed from 2006 and refined over seven years before its 2013 release, with a warm and tactile character suited to both text and display settings.

About

The design is built around a gently curved, slightly modulated stroke that gives the typeface an almost haptic quality, making it feel approachable without losing typographic rigour. Four styles cover Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic, with the italics carrying an additional set of swash alternates for display use. OpenType features are unusually thorough, including ten figure sets, small capitals, discretionary ligatures, historical forms, automated fractions and a small sofa-building pictogram kit.

Classification

FDI classify it as serif; the subtly curved, slightly modulated stroke and warm proportions place it in the transitional serif tradition, though with a humanist warmth that suits both text and display use.
