A 1933 geometric blackletter revival by Albert Auspurg, reissued by FDI Type with alternate legibility variants and chromatic display styles.

About

Originally released by Ludwig & Mayer in 1933, Krimhilde sits at the intersection of German blackletter tradition and the geometric sans-serif sensibility of New Typography. FDI Type's 2018 revival offers two versions: Version A preserves the original letterforms with a full Latin 1 character set, while Version B substitutes alternative shapes to ease reading for those unfamiliar with blackletter conventions. Optional outline, shadow and fill styles allow chromatic layering for display and editorial work.

Classification

Krimhilde fuses German blackletter letterforms with geometric sans-serif influences from the 1920s New Typography movement, placing it firmly in the blackletter category with an unusual geometric hybrid character.
