Mainzer Initialen
FDI Type Foundry · Ralf Herrmann · 2023

A digitisation of early 20th-century blackletter initials from Ferd. Theinhardt and H. Berthold, released as modern colour fonts in OpenType SVG and COLR/CPAL formats.
About
Originally published by Berlin type foundries Ferd. Theinhardt and H. Berthold, these 26 German blackletter capitals have been carefully redrawn by Ralf Herrmann and extended into three-colour variants. The package ships as ten OpenType SVG fonts each with its own three-colour palette, plus a COLR/CPAL webfont whose colours can be overridden via CSS, and a standard single-colour OpenType file for broader compatibility. With no lowercase, figures or diacritics, it is a specialist tool for decorative initials in German editorial and logotype work.
Classification
A digitisation of historical blackletter capital initials originally published in the early 20th century; no lowercase exists, placing it squarely in decorative blackletter display use.
