Pavillon Gotisch specimen from FDI Type Foundry

A digitisation of an 1916 Julius Klinkhardt blackletter, released in two styles: one faithful to the original, one with romanised letterforms for wider legibility.

About

Digitised from prints made at the Pavillon-Presse printing museum in Weimar, this typeface traces back to a letterpress font issued by the Leipzig foundry Julius Klinkhardt in 1916. The A variant extends the original design to a full Latin 1 character set and preserves the historic ligatures and swash letters via OpenType features. The B variant substitutes romanised glyph shapes to improve legibility for readers unfamiliar with traditional German blackletter conventions.

Classification

A digitisation of a 1916 German letterpress blackletter, classified explicitly as blackletter by the foundry, with one traditional and one romanised variant.
