Wayfinding Sans Symbols specimen from FDI Type Foundry

A pictogram font of over 400 symbols for wayfinding and signage, using OpenType ligatures so designers type mnemonic codes rather than hunting through glyph palettes.

About

Designed by Andreas Wohlleben, this symbol font replaces the slow process of placing individual vector images by encoding pictograms as typed mnemonics such as #wheelchair or #parking, activated via OpenType ligatures. The 400-plus glyphs cover transport, disability, directional arrows, enclosed letters and numbers, and span Unicode's Transport & Map Symbols range. Four style variants offer rectangular or round forms in positive or negative versions, and the #fill and #ban prefixes allow background colour and prohibition overlays without leaving the type environment.

Classification

A purely symbolic typeface consisting of over 400 pictograms for signage use, with no conventional letterforms; categorised as display given its specialised, non-text function.
