Cockpit specimen from Feliciano Type

A condensed reverse-contrast display typeface in four weights with obliques, drawn from the distorted lettering painted on airport runways and designed to account for cockpit viewing angles.

About

The concept behind Cockpit is perspective scaling: runway markings are elongated to appear proportional when viewed from a steep angle above. That functional logic drives the entire design, producing mechanically constructed letterforms with intentional imperfection and no decorative concession. Four weights from Regular to Black each come with an oblique, giving eight styles in total.

Classification

Cockpit is a condensed reverse-contrast typeface with mechanical, utilitarian forms derived from airport runway lettering. The reverse-contrast construction and perspective-scaling concept place it firmly in the display category rather than any conventional text classification.
