A monospaced revival inspired by W.A. Dwiggins' variable-width typewriter concept, introducing half-width and one-and-a-half-width glyphs alongside angled stubbed terminals for a mechanical, technical character.
About
Rather than applying uniform spacing to every glyph, FC Crimp revives a mid-century idea attributed to W.A. Dwiggins: assigning narrow glyphs like 'i' and 'l' a 50% width and wide ones like 'M' and 'w' a 150% width within an otherwise fixed-pitch system. Angled, stubbed terminals give the typeface a distinctly industrial quality that sits between a typewriter face and a technical drafting font. The family targets engineering, aerospace, gaming and outdoor branding applications, and includes Latin, Greek and Cyrillic script coverage.
Classification
Crimp is explicitly monospaced in concept, with all glyphs occupying a fixed width or proportional multiples thereof (50%, 150%); its angled stubbed terminals and technical origins place it firmly in the monospaced grotesque tradition.
