FF Beowolf was released at FontFont's founding in 1990 and is one of the most conceptually significant typefaces of the digital era. Van Blokland and van Rossum used PostScript programming to introduce controlled randomness into every character — each letter was slightly different from the last, mimicking hand-drawn or letterpress variability. It established LettError's reputation and demonstrated that type could be a system rather than a fixed set of forms.
Classification
One of the first fonts released through FontFont and among the earliest 'randomised' typefaces. Used PostScript programming to introduce controlled randomness into letterforms — each character printed slightly differently. A landmark of digital type experimentation.
