FF DIN
FontFont · Albert-Jan Pool · 1995
Albert-Jan Pool's FontFont interpretation of the German DIN standard letterform — industrial, precise and widely used in transportation and corporate identity.
About
FF DIN was designed by Albert-Jan Pool in 1995, drawing on the official German DIN 1451 standard used for road and technical signage. Pool refined the industrial source material into a typographically coherent family with consistent spacing and extended character sets. Its precise, unornamented character has made it a staple of transport, technology and corporate design. FF DIN Round, added in 2010, provides a friendlier alternative.
Classification
Industrial grotesque drawn from the German standard DIN 1451. Oblique rather than true italic. Square dot above lowercase i. Rounded shoulder on lowercase r. Straight leg on uppercase R. Expanded over time with Cyrillic, Greek and Eastern European sets. FF DIN Round (2010) offers five weights with rounded terminals.
