Crimson Pro
Fontshare · Jacques Le Bailly · 2022

A Google-commissioned redesign of the original Crimson typeface by Jacques Le Bailly, refined for colour, glyph balance and legibility across 16 static styles and two variable fonts.
About
Designed by Jacques Le Bailly (@Fonthausen), Crimson Pro is a thorough reworking of the original Crimson, itself drawn in the Renaissance old-style tradition. The redesign addresses shortcomings in glyph balance and on-screen legibility through months of revision, resulting in a family that runs from Extra Light to Black with matching italics throughout. Available as a variable font and released under the SIL Open Font License, it suits magazine, publishing and long-form editorial work.
Classification
Crimson Pro follows in the tradition of old-style humanist serifs inspired by the work of Renaissance type designers, with high contrast strokes and angled stress suited to extended reading.
